Adventures of the Sprit!,  September 27, 2007

By Jeff Salz

Eileen Mcdargh blends a very contemporary transcendentalism - ala Thoreau and Emerson - with a blythe spirit and poetic soul. The book itself is a journey of sheer delight. I've been a huge fan of Rod MacIver's illuminating water-colors for a long time. That these two artist should combine forces is an immeasurable gift. Wisdom both beautiful and profound... I plan on buying a bunch for all the fellow wilderness enthusiasts in my life!

A Psychologist's Opinion of Gifts from the Mountain,  September 21, 2007

By Dr. Beverly Smallwood

The physical beauty of this book is topped only by the beauty and practicality of the metaphor of Gifts from the Mountain. Eileen McDargh has done a masterful job of creating for readers the experience of climbing to reach goals through these captivating words and illustrations. As a psychologist, I love books that get right through to that emotional part of the brain to bring about real-life results. This one does just that. As a boost to personal motivation or as a gift to someone you want to encourage, this is a wonderful book. I give it top ratings! Dr. Beverly Smallwood

Profound truth and wisdom,  September 11, 2007

By Kate S. Holgate

I found this to be a deceptively simple, incredibly powerful book that is not only for personal insight but for professional wisdom. Best of all, I found out that the author has written three downloadable "conversation fire starter" guides on her website to help derive a deeper dialog at work and at home. I wear a lot of hats and was happy to see one for leaders, one for coaches and one for community members. I've read several of her books and they have all touched me.The Resilient Spirit: Heart Talk for Staying Rightside Up in a World That's Upside DownTalk Ain't Cheap...It's Priceless! book as vacation break,  March 11, 2008

By Kare Anderson

When your workaholic colleagues and friends do not let up on their all-enveloping "goal", give them a respite they may pick up and read one day - and feel different when done. Thank you Eileen for this sensory, elegantly-simple gift book of reminders for why we are helped by taking that pause and looking around. Sculling out on Richardson Bay here in Sausalito this morning, I reflected back on her wise insights.

• Pithy, profound, and practical reflections on what nature can teach us about handling the demands of life and work

• Beautifully illustrated throughout with full-color watercolor paintings

Whether you are a world-weary worker juggling the demands of a hectic life or a seeker of soul-satisfying experiences, this deceptively simple book is your key to refresh, renew, rethink and recharge.

From an unexpectedly arduous backpacking trip, Eileen McDargh discovers truths from the experience. Deep in grime, grit, and grace-filled mornings, she finds insights for business, for relationships, for family, for life, and for the soul.

Whether musing on wild onions or mosquitoes, river crossings or thunderbolts, Eileen shares lessons for understanding the mundane and the magnificent, the difficult and the delightful, the ordinary and the extraordinary. Mountains become a lyrical metaphor for coping with life's complexities.

You'll be reminded of what you may already know but have likely forgotten in the tension of time constraints, work worries, and family frustrations. McDargh will jar your memory, evoke new awareness, and spur you to action.

Illustrated with stunning watercolor paintings, Gifts from the Mountain helps you to pay attention to the process of life and take joy in the journey.

During a backpacking trek, Eileen McDargh discovered that mountains have incredible wisdom to offer if one has eyes to see and ears to hear. Just as the ocean inspired Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s classic Gifts from the Sea, so too can a mountain become a lyrical metaphor for coping with life’s complexities. Whether musing on wild onions or mosquitoes, river crossings or thunderbolts, McDargh shares lessons for understanding the mundane and the magnificent, the difficult and the delightful, the ordinary and the extraordinary. Each two-page spread features a full-color watercolor painting illuminating these concise, graceful reflections. Gifts from the Mountain helps us pay attention to the process of life and to take joy in the journey.
