Tom Devine is legal director of the Government Accountability Project, where he has worked to assist thousands of whistleblowers to come forward and has been involved in the all of the campaigns to pass or defend major whistleblower laws over the last two decades.
Oscar, Pulitzer, and Academy Award-winning documentarian Laura Poitras, who told the story of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in her documentary Citizenfour, has been detained by US Border Patrol at least 50 times, without any legitimate explanation, upon trying to reenter the country. Now, she is fighting back!
“’I’m filing this lawsuit because the government uses the U.S. border to bypass the rule of law,’ Poitras said in a statement. ‘This simply should not be tolerated in a democracy.’”
This is eerily similar to what happened to GAP’s Jesselyn Radack when she traveled abroad while representing Edward Snowden.
Sadly, this is nothing new. Check out what GAP national security whistleblowers had to deal with for telling the truth.
