    We are seeking an outgoing and people-oriented Communications and Sales Assistant who is passionate about helping to spread the BK Mission by supporting its books, authors, and customers.


    Communications (55%)
    • Mail out review copy requests, galley mailings, and review copy mailings in an efficient manner
    • Create galleys and coordinate distribution to PRHPS sales reps
    • Coordinate the bi-weekly publicity update and distribute to BK staff and international contacts
    • Enter PR hits into MAPPS (PRHPS My House)
    • Assist with building lists in the Meltwater database for galley mailings and review copy email blasts
    • Assist with pitching authors to media
    • Coordinate book events for select authors
    • Assist with the preparation of press releases and galley letters
    • Recruit and co-manage new interns throughout the year
    • Assist with follow-up on galleys and review copy mailings
    • Submit book lists to Publishers Weekly for yearly announcement issues

    Sales Support (35% of time):
    • Assist with outreach to associations
    • Assist with research of potential bulk buyers
    • Assist with the research of potential sales outlets for books that are showing success in a specific vertical market
    • Handle exam copy requests and follow up to see if book was adopted
    • Assist with customer service issues and tracking
    • Assist with stock transfers from PRHPS
    • Send thank you notes to bulk buyers
    • Attend trade shows to support sales 1-2 times per year

    Organizational Citizenship (10% of time):
    • Participate in bi-weekly sales & marketing department meetings
    • Participate in monthly staff meetings, monthly publication board meetings (on a voluntary basis), author day lunches, and appropriate author day marketing meetings
    • Provide mentorship to communications interns
    • Follow all company policies in Employee Handbook regarding expense reporting, company travel, benefits, workplace rules, etc.


    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Detail-oriented and have the ability to organize and manage many different responsibilities
    • Track record of performing responsibilities with accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and efficiency through paid and/or volunteer work
    • Track record of being accountable for meeting deadlines through paid and/or volunteer work
    • Undergraduate college degree or equivalent experience
    • Be proficient at Office Suite for Mac (including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
