Kathleen brings over 30 years of experience as a facilitator, trainer, educator and consultant to her work of supporting social change agents. Her passion is to work with individuals, groups and organizations engaged in challenging, liberating, work to create a more inclusive and equitable world. Her style as a facilitator and trainer has been described as engaging, authentic, inclusive, calming, thoughtful, creative and full of thought-provoking questions that lead to achieving desired results. She does this through her work with both K L Rice Consulting and Luna Jiménez Seminars and Associates.

She is a Certified Facilitator with the Institute of Cultural Affairs Technology of Participation (ToP), and utilizes the methodologies to support inclusive and equitable participation and consensus building of diverse stakeholders. She has facilitated the development of many multi-year strategic plans and annual implementation plans. Her on-going training of college student leaders to support their development as inclusive peer-leader/facilitators has been lauded by California State University Channel Islands. Since 2011, she has facilitated quarterly meetings of a federally funded 40-member Consortium working to increase employment of young people with development and intellectual disabilities in California.

As a Junior Associate with Luna Jiménez Seminars, she assists Nanci Luna Jiménez in facilitating transformative workshops and meetings that “inspire and empower individuals and organizations to heal from the effects of oppression and increase their commitment to transformative social change through personal transformation, organizational change, and social justice.”  

Since 2001, Kathleen has been a participant and teaching team member of The UNtraining, a program with “a provocative and compassionate approach to help people discover how to work together in extraordinary ways to end our collusion with racism and all forms of oppression.” Kathleen specifically teaches in the program that focuses on UNtraining White Liberal Racism with cohorts of white people looking at their white conditioning and building their capacity to be more effective racial justice allies.

Her clients have included national and state associations, numerous local community-based organizations, the California Employment Consortium for Youth, and academic and student development units of many colleges and universities, including Stanford University, the University of Minnesota, California State University Office of the Chancellor and multiple CSU campuses, UCLA, and the University of San Francisco. She also specializes in supporting higher education institutions in building collaborative partnerships with local and global communities.

Prior to becoming an independent consultant in 2004, she worked for 20 years in 6 Universities in both student affairs and academic affairs and worked for 4 years for the Corporation for National and Community Service. She earned her Ph.D. in College Student Personnel from the University of Maryland and focused her dissertation on students’ experiences in a class on race and racism.
