The Financial Times reports that BK author Jared Bernstein meets with President Obama every day, as part of his core team of economic advisers. I love the idea that a member of the BK community is in a position to influence US policy so directly. BersteinFT.pdf
I love that too! (What's not to love.) Have you or anyone else in BK heard him talk about what that experience is like? And what the tenor of the conversation is when sticky policy decisions are on the table? (Financial reform, for instance!)
I've had a few email exchanges with him. He's VERY busy but loving it. He feels like it's a real privilege to serve the country in this way. He did say he thinks Americans who don't feel Obama is progressive enough need to turn up the heat. He quoted FDR: "Make me do it."
I agree this is great for BK and I think also for the country. I continue to find that I agree with his economic points of view. I like the fact he is an 'outsider' with deep and fundamental economic expertise. My guess is he brings a point of view to the table that may not be mainstream in that circle. I agree with him too regarding 'turning up the heat'.
Maybe when Jared leaves office (hopefully not until 2017) he will write the BK book Creating a Country That Works for All from the White House insider perspective.
