This is a video of a presentation delivered at the "BK Leadership Exchange," which is a program of the Berrett-Koehler Foundation and was held on January 10, 2015, at the BK office. In the presentation, Berrett-Koehler's founder & CEO shares his personal story of how he came to embrace a new paradigm of leadership. In the jobs he held in his youth, he was simply told what to do and not given any input into company decisions. He realized companies are more effective when everyone’s ideas are listened to. So when he became a leader himself, he worked hard to create a company culture where everyone would have input.
After sharing his personal story, he lays out his ideas about contrasting old and new leadership paradigms. (Those ideas are summarized in a PDF you can download below.) This new paradigm vision of leadership informs Berrett-Koehler’s publishing portfolio, as well as informing Berrett-Koehler’s own organizational structure, culture, and policies.
