BK Magazine Marginally Unethical Life Hacks
Posted by Jeevan Sivasubramaniam, Managing Director, Editorial, Berrett-Koehler Publishers Inc.
You often hear those pizza restaurants offering a special deal for two smaller pizzas at a cheaper prize than a single larger pizza. After all, who wouldn't want two 12-inch pizzas for cheaper than a single 18-inch pizza, right?
Well, if you did the math, you would realize that in terms of actuall pizza area, an 18-inch pizza has more, um, pizza, than two 12-inch pizzas.
I know, it doesn't sound right, but do the math.
Dear Jeevan, although as a former marketing person I understand (and therefor forgive) the need for a shocking headline, yet this is not an ethical issue at all but the correct application of slow thinking. System 2 thinking (OS2) is rational thinking--slow, deliberate and systematic--and based on considered evaluation that result in logical conclusions. Good for you to slow down and come to a solid understanding of pizza maximizations (where crust is reduced and tomatoey cheesy goodness is increased). Own It, Feel It, Live It, Love It! --the Educating Gossip
Thanks for this and for weighing in--I actually meant to say that it was a marginally unethical hack on the pizza-owner's part!
